What to Expect

1.

Psychiatric Evaluation (Initial Visit)

Young woman on laptop at dining room table

Your initial psychiatric evaluation is a comprehensive appointment designed to better understand your symptoms, history, goals, and overall health. This visit provides an opportunity to discuss concerns in a supportive, collaborative, and confidential environment while exploring the biological, psychological, lifestyle, and medical factors that may be contributing to your current challenges.

During the evaluation, Becky will review your mental health history, medical history, medications, sleep patterns, stressors, prior treatment experiences, and other relevant aspects of your well-being. Depending on your situation, discussion may also include factors such as hormones, nutrition, chronic health conditions, executive functioning, nervous system regulation, and lifestyle patterns when clinically appropriate.

The goal of the evaluation is to develop a thoughtful, individualized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and goals. Recommendations may include medication management, supportive psychotherapy, lifestyle and sleep interventions, lab evaluation, integrative support strategies, or coordination with other healthcare providers as needed.

Please allow approximately 60–75 minutes for the initial evaluation appointment.

Follow-up Care

Follow-up appointments are designed to provide ongoing support, monitor progress, and adjust treatment as needed over time. These visits allow space to discuss symptom changes, medication response, side effects, stressors, sleep, functioning, and any new concerns that may arise between appointments.

Care is collaborative and individualized, with treatment decisions guided by each patient’s goals, experiences, and overall well-being. Depending on your needs, follow-up visits may include medication adjustments, supportive psychotherapy, lifestyle recommendations, sleep support, education, and coordination with other healthcare providers when appropriate.

Mental health care is rarely one-size-fits-all, and treatment often evolves over time. Follow-up care is intended to provide thoughtful, ongoing guidance while helping patients build sustainable long-term stability, resilience, and wellness.

Most follow-up appointments are approximately 30–45 minutes depending on complexity and treatment needs.

Integrative Psychiatry Services

Integrative psychiatry services are designed for patients seeking a broader, whole-person approach to mental health care. In addition to traditional psychiatric evaluation and medication management, this approach considers the potential impact of sleep, hormones, nutrition, chronic illness, stress physiology, metabolic health, nervous system regulation, and other medical or lifestyle factors that may influence emotional well-being and cognitive functioning.

As both a Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Becky incorporates a medically informed perspective into psychiatric care whenever clinically appropriate. Depending on individual needs, integrative services may include more in-depth review of medical history, targeted lab evaluation, nutrition and supplement guidance, sleep optimization, lifestyle interventions, and collaboration with other healthcare professionals.

Integrative psychiatry is not intended to replace evidence-based psychiatric treatment, but to strengthen and personalize it by looking more comprehensively at the factors that may be contributing to symptoms and overall functioning.

These services are individualized based on clinical appropriateness, patient goals, and overall treatment complexity.

These visits explore not only mental health concerns, but also the biological, medical, lifestyle, and environmental factors that may be contributing to emotional well-being and daily functioning.

This program is designed for patients who are stable, medically appropriate, and able to self-administer medication in a safe home environment. Along with your ketamine prescription, your package includes education, guidance, and ongoing access to your provider via our patient portal throughout the process.Evaluations may include discussion of prior treatment experiences, sleep, stress, executive functioning, hormones, chronic medical conditions, nutrition, trauma history, and other relevant aspects of health when clinically appropriate. The goal is to develop a thoughtful, individualized treatment plan tailored to each patient’s needs.

Recommendations may include medication management, supportive psychotherapy, lifestyle and sleep interventions, lab evaluation, integrative support strategies, or coordination with other healthcare providers when appropriate.

Ongoing Medication Management

Follow-up appointments provide ongoing support, symptom monitoring, and treatment adjustment over time. Care is collaborative and individualized, with treatment decisions guided by each patient’s goals, experiences, response to treatment, and overall well-being.

Appointments may include medication adjustments, supportive psychotherapy, sleep support, education, lifestyle recommendations, and discussion of stressors or life changes impacting mental health. Treatment plans are designed to evolve as patients progress through different phases of care.

The goal of ongoing treatment is not simply symptom reduction, but helping patients build long-term stability, resilience, and improved quality of life.

ADHD Evaluation & Management

TrueNorth Psychiatric provides comprehensive evaluation and ongoing treatment for ADHD and executive functioning concerns across the lifespan. Attention difficulties, distractibility, impulsivity, emotional dysregulation, task paralysis, burnout, sleep disruption, anxiety, and chronic overwhelm can affect academic performance, work functioning, relationships, and overall quality of life.

Evaluation includes discussion of symptom history, executive functioning patterns, developmental history, sleep, mood, anxiety, medical factors, and prior treatment experiences when appropriate. Because ADHD symptoms can overlap with other medical and psychiatric conditions, care is approached thoughtfully and comprehensively rather than through a one-size-fits-all model.

Treatment plans are individualized and may include medication management, behavioral strategies, nervous system regulation support, sleep optimization, lifestyle interventions, and collaborative discussion around sustainable long-term functioning and wellness.

Sleep & Insomnia Support

Sleep plays a foundational role in emotional regulation, cognitive functioning, physical health, and overall mental wellness. TrueNorth Psychiatric offers evaluation and support for insomnia, disrupted sleep patterns, excessive daytime fatigue, circadian rhythm concerns, nightmares, and other sleep-related symptoms that may be contributing to psychiatric or cognitive difficulties.

Because sleep disturbances are often interconnected with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, hormonal factors, stress physiology, and medical conditions such as sleep apnea, evaluation focuses on understanding the broader picture rather than treating symptoms in isolation.

Treatment recommendations may include sleep-focused behavioral strategies, medication management, lifestyle interventions, sleep hygiene support, and coordination of additional testing or specialty care when clinically appropriate.

Trauma & Mood Disorder Care

TrueNorth Psychiatric provides individualized care for patients experiencing depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, PTSD, complex trauma, emotional dysregulation, chronic stress, and related mood concerns. Treatment is grounded in evidence-based psychiatry while recognizing the complex ways trauma and chronic stress can affect both mental and physical health over time.

Care is collaborative, supportive, and tailored to each patient’s experiences, symptoms, goals, and nervous system patterns. Depending on clinical needs, treatment may include medication management, supportive psychotherapy, nervous system regulation strategies, sleep support, lifestyle interventions, and coordination with therapists or other healthcare providers.

The goal is to help patients build greater emotional stability, resilience, self-understanding, and long-term wellness through thoughtful, individualized care.

Specialized/Adjunctive Services

Ketamine Therapy

Ketamine therapy may be considered for carefully selected patients experiencing treatment-resistant depression, severe mood symptoms, chronic suicidal thinking, trauma-related symptoms, or other complex psychiatric presentations when traditional treatment approaches have not provided adequate relief.

TrueNorth Psychiatric works collaboratively with established ketamine providers to help determine whether ketamine treatment may be clinically appropriate as part of a broader mental health treatment plan. Ongoing psychiatric oversight, medication management, symptom monitoring, and integration into overall care remain important components of the process.

Ketamine therapy is approached thoughtfully and cautiously, with emphasis on safety, evidence-based practice, and individualized treatment planning.

Pharmacogenomic Testing

Pharmacogenomic testing evaluates how certain genetic factors may influence the way an individual metabolizes or responds to psychiatric medications. While genetic testing cannot predict exactly which medication will work best, it can sometimes provide additional information that may help guide treatment decisions and reduce unnecessary medication trials.

When clinically appropriate, TrueNorth Psychiatric may incorporate pharmacogenomic testing as one part of a broader, individualized treatment approach. Results are interpreted alongside a patient’s symptoms, medical history, prior medication experiences, and overall clinical presentation.

Testing is used thoughtfully as a clinical tool to support more personalized psychiatric care rather than as a standalone solution.

Addiction & Recovery Treatment

TrueNorth Psychiatric provides compassionate, evidence-based support for individuals navigating substance use concerns, recovery, relapse prevention, and co-occurring psychiatric conditions. Care is individualized and grounded in the understanding that addiction often overlaps with trauma, chronic stress, mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, sleep disruption, and other medical or psychological factors.

Treatment may include medication-assisted treatment (MAT) when appropriate, along with psychiatric medication management, supportive psychotherapy, lifestyle support, relapse prevention planning, and coordination with therapists, recovery programs, or other healthcare professionals.

The goal of treatment is to support long-term recovery, stability, improved functioning, and overall well-being in a respectful and collaborative environment.

Home Sleep Study Coordination

For patients experiencing symptoms suggestive of obstructive sleep apnea or other sleep-related breathing disorders, TrueNorth Psychiatric may help coordinate home sleep study testing when clinically appropriate. Sleep disorders can significantly affect mood, concentration, anxiety, energy levels, executive functioning, and overall mental health.

Symptoms such as chronic fatigue, daytime sleepiness, snoring, morning headaches, insomnia, poor concentration, irritability, or treatment-resistant psychiatric symptoms may sometimes warrant further sleep evaluation.

When indicated, home sleep testing can provide additional information to help guide treatment recommendations and support a more comprehensive understanding of a patient’s overall health and functioning.
